Suprax is a broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic. It has a fundamentally new principle of exposure to bacteria that are the causative agent of diseases (destroys the walls of their cells). The Suprax antibiotic is suitable for both adults and small patients.

Forms of release and composition of the drug

The basis of the drug is the active substance cefixime, which belongs to the pharmacological group of cephalosporins. The drug is available in two forms - tablet and granular for the preparation of a solution.

The tablets are intended for oral administration, have a different dosage and format:

  • 200 mg capsules;
  • 400 mg capsules;
  • Suprax Solutab tablets 400 mg.

The composition of the medicine includes:

  • cefixime;
  • magnesium stearate;
  • karmazin;
  • colloidal silica;
  • carboxymethyl cellulose;
  • titanium dioxide;
  • gelatin;
  • dyes.

Capsules are grouped in 6 pieces in a cell blister, placed in a cardboard package. The content of tablets in blisters is different - 1, 5 or 7 pcs. The number of plates with the drug in one package can be 1 or 2 pcs.

Suprax Solutab tablets are dispersible, have an elliptical shape and a characteristic strawberry smell, are painted in a pale yellow color.

Capsules differ not only in size and dosage, but also in the shade of the shell. The preparation containing 200 mg of cefixime has a white body with a yellow cap. 400 mg is covered with a purple cap. The encoding H808 is applied to the white case. Inside the capsules of 200 and 400 mg contains a white-yellow powder composition.

The granular format of the Suprax antibiotic is used to prepare a suspension solution. Generally used in pediatrics. The drug is placed in a bottle made of tinted glass, with a total volume of 60 ml. The medicine is packed in a cardboard box. The set includes a dispensing spoon.

5 ml Suprax granules contain:

  • 100 mg cefixime;

  • yellow tar.

Suprax Tablets

The dosage of the drug is set based on the age and weight of the patient. Adults and children over 12 years of age (if their weight exceeds 50 kg) are prescribed 400 mg of Suprax per day. This can be either a single (1 tablet of 400 mg) or a double dose (2 tablets of 200 mg). If the patient's weight is 49 kg or less, then a single dose of 1 tablet of 200 mg is prescribed. The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the disease and the general condition of the body. It usually ranges from 1 to 1.5 weeks.

Solutab

The dosage of taking Suprax Solutab is similar to the use of tablets. The medication should be accompanied by a plentiful drink or previously diluted in a small amount of water. The prepared solution is not intended for storage, it should be consumed immediately after dilution.

The duration of treatment with Suprax Solutab depends on the symptoms of the disease. However, one cannot focus on their disappearance. After improving well-being, the medication is prolonged for 2-3 days.

The drug is in capsules

The frequency of taking Suprax 400 mg capsules for adults is prescribed according to the basic scheme for taking the tablet form of the drug. Antibiotic Suprax for children under 12 years of age is prescribed based on the calculation of 8 mg per kilogram of the child’s weight. For smaller patients, the dosage is reduced to 2.5 to 6 mg.

Suspension for children

Granules for solution preparation are used mainly in pediatrics. Due to the rich taste of strawberries, even the smallest patients are happy to take the medicine.Before preparing a children's antibiotic in suspension, it is necessary to mix the granules with shaking, then pour 2 ml of cold water into the vial in 2 passes. Children's Suprax does not need to be stored in the cold, but before use it must be shaken every time.

1 ml of the solution contains 20 mg of the active substance. Based on this, the dosage of the drug is:

  • from 6 to 12 months - 2.5 - 4 ml;
  • from 2 to 4 years - 5 ml;
  • for school children - 6 - 10 ml.

In the presence of serious diseases, the possibility of parenteral use of Suprax for 3 days is provided, after which they switch to its oral use.

The duration of the course is determined by the type of disease. In the treatment of ENT diseases, it is from 1 to 2 weeks. For therapy aimed at normalizing the functioning of the urogenital organs, the drug is used from 3 days to 2 weeks.

If there is a kidney dysfunction, the dosage of the drug is reduced, the final amount of the drug, safe for the patient, is determined by a specialist.

During pregnancy and lactation

Suprax should be taken during pregnancy only for medical reasons. The use of the drug is permissible only in the second and third trimesters. Taking it at an earlier date can lead to detachment of the placenta, and also increases the risk of miscarriage.

The drug is used according to the basic scheme, however, the total duration should not exceed 10 days in order to avoid dysbiosis.

The simultaneous use of an antibiotic and breastfeeding are incompatible. If necessary, the medication of the child should be transferred to artificial feeding.

Interaction with other drugs

Combine Suprax with other drugs should be extremely careful and only as directed by a specialist. Some medications can reduce its effectiveness, and combined use with other drugs can harm the body.

So antacids at times slow down the process of assimilation of cefixime. Therefore, they should be taken either 4 hours later or 2 hours after Suprax. The simultaneous use with diuretics and antibiotics, the basis of which is penicillin, is prohibited.

The drug has a strong effect on the functioning of the kidneys. It can not be used with medicines whose effect adversely affects the functioning of the body.

Prohibited:

  • Furosemide;
  • Polymyxin;
  • Gentamicin.

Compatible Suprax with Alcohol

  • intolerance to penicillin and cephalosporin;
  • serious chronic kidney disease;
  • pseudomembranous colitis.

It is dangerous to give medication to children under the age of 6 months, and it is also extremely careful to prescribe it to elderly patients.

In case of an overdose of the drug, an increase in the likelihood of side effects is observed.
