How to cook rolls at home

Cooking tools

To prepare a Japanese delicacy, you need to stock up on a bamboo makis rug, a sharp knife for cutting. A special machine will help optimize the cooking process.

The rolls may contain the following products:

  • rice is an indispensable product in rolls. Japanese craftsmen use special rice called “Nishiki” for cooking. Normal round grain or medium grain rice is suitable;
  • ginger - kills the microorganisms contained in raw fish;
  • nori - seaweed sheets where rice and filling are wrapped;
  • soy sauce - an indispensable companion of rolls, giving the dish a special piquancy and sophistication;
  • wasabi - horseradish in the form of a paste or powder, makes the rolls sharp;
  • rice vinegar - makes rice sweet.

How to cook rice for rolls

The taste of the dish largely depends on the correct preparation of rice.

To begin, rice is thoroughly washed under running cold water. During the procedure, it is recommended to add ice cubes, rice grains and plain water to the pan. All this is left for 30 minutes and only after the expiration of the time the washing process begins. Continue this procedure until the water becomes crystal clear. To do this, you need to change the fluid 10-12 times.

The washed rice is placed in a pan with thick walls and a bottom. Cold water is poured there (1.5 kg of water will be required per 1 kg of rice). The pan is covered with a lid and left over medium heat until boiling. After that, the fire is reduced to a minimum, and rice is cooked for another 10-12 minutes. Then the gas is turned off, but the product is left in the dishes with the lid closed for another 30 minutes. Infused rice grains are transferred to another container, they must cool to room temperature.

After the rice for the rolls is ready, you can begin to prepare the dressing. Japanese technology uses two main methods.

  • The composition is mixed until a homogeneous consistency is obtained. After that, the pan is removed from the fire.

Rice vinegar dressing.

This recipe is more traditional and common.

  • 35 g of sugar, the same amount of ground salt and 100 ml of rice vinegar are mixed and put on medium heat.
