Maple trees have long been used to decorate urban squares and park ensembles. Today, thanks to the racy and vibrant colors, decorative species of trees and shrubs are increasingly used to create shady zones in summer cottages and household plots. One of the spectacular representatives of the flora with a spherical crown is the maple Globozum.

Description varieties maple Globozum

Globosum maple is a rather small tree with a height of up to 7 m, which is characterized by a slow growth rate. A compact crown in the shape of a ball, which is formed without additional pruning, can reach a diameter of 5 m. Petiole leaves, divided into 5 segments, when blooming, have a pink color, which gradually turns green. And with the advent of autumn, graceful shoots are decorated with yellow leaves with an orange tint. At the end of spring, the crown of the plant is covered with corymbose inflorescences of fragrant flowers of greenish-yellow color, on the site of which diptera fruits form over time.

Outdoor landing

You can plant a maple in the area both in early spring and in the fall after falling of leaves, having previously chosen the most suitable place.

Planting should be in sunny areas with deep groundwater. The variety is rather undemanding to the composition of soils, but prefers fertile soil with a loose structure that provides the necessary level of air and water permeability.

When carrying out planting, the following recommendations should be considered:

  1. A pit is excavated with a depth slightly larger than the earthen seedlings and with a diameter 4 times that of the planting material.
  2. When group landing, the distance between the recesses of 2 - 3 m is maintained.
  3. Crushed stone or broken brick falls to the bottom of the pit, which is crushed by 150 g of azofoska.
  4. From compost, turf soil and sand in a ratio of 3: 2: 1, fertile soil is prepared, from which a small mound in the hole is made.
  5. Next is a seedling with spread roots.
  6. The pit is filled with earth, which is compacted in the trunk circle, watered plentifully and mulched after absorbing water using peat.

Agrotechnics of cultivation and care

Growing acutifolia maple on a site, the basic agrotechnical requirements for cultivating a plant in open ground should be observed.

  • Watering. Globozum maple variety is very hygrophilous and needs regular watering, which is carried out monthly in the spring and autumn, and weekly in the summer heat. The consumption rate depends on the age of the tree and ranges from 20 to 40 liters of water per instance.
  • Loosening and weeding. Periodically, it is recommended to loosen the near-trunk circle, removing weed vegetation in the near-trunk circle. To reduce the number of loosening, you can resort to the mulching procedure using sawdust or peat.
  • Top dressing. If the planting pit when planting a seedling was filled with nutrient substrate, then the next top dressing and the use of rotted manure should be carried out only next spring. You can also use tableted agrochemicals to organize feeding, which are laid out every month in the trunk circle.

Cropping and shaping the crown

The spherical crown of the correct form does not need a shaping haircut.

To maintain a neat appearance and maintain decorativeness, sanitary pruning is carried out every spring, during which frozen, dry and diseased shoots are removed, as well as branches growing inwards and greatly thickening the crown.

Plant propagation methods

To preserve the varietal characteristics of the plant, Globusum maple is propagated by vaccination.

For this:

  1. In the spring, before the sap flow begins, a cut of the bark is made on a typical seedling.
  2. Under the bark is placed the bud of a varietal tree.
  3. The place of vaccination is tied with gauze.

Important! All manipulations are carried out with a sterile instrument and thoroughly washed hands to prevent infection.

Globusum maple wintering

At a young age, the tree is necessarily protected from frost by wrapping the trunk with burlap and covering the trunk circle with fir spruce branches, which will protect the root system from freezing. An adult plant with good frost resistance does not need shelter.

Disease and Pest Prevention

The most common disease of maple, in which burgundy spots appear on the shoots and branches dry out, is coral spotting. At the first sign, the affected shoots must be removed, and the places of cuts treated with garden var.

Pests such as whitefly, mealybug and leafy weevils are also capable of harming the decorativeness of the tree, and insecticides can help cope with it.

As preventive measures to protect plants from diseases and harmful insects should:

  • timely remove fallen leaves;
  • carry out sanitary crop pruning regularly;
  • carry out spring treatment of the tree with a tank mixture, which includes a copper-containing fungicide and a systemic insecticidal preparation.

Landscape design

Thanks to the compact crown, which maintains decorativeness throughout the growing season, Globusum maple is very popular among landscape designers.

Apply it:

  • when forming hedges;
  • in solitary landings in the design of shady rest areas in the garden;
  • to create colorful ensembles using trees and shrubs of various colors;
  • as the main plant, which stands out against the background of a green lawn.

Maple Globozum, possessing high decorative qualities and unpretentious character, deserves special attention when choosing tree species for landscaping home gardens and summer cottages.
