Paracetamol is one of the most commonly used medications. This demand is due to its safety and high efficiency, allowing you to quickly reduce heat. Despite this, many people do not even suspect that Paracetamol and alcohol are a very dangerous combination, which can lead to adverse consequences.

Compatibility of Paracetamol and Alcohol

The analgesic Paracetamol is considered incompatible with the use of alcohol.

The active substance of the drug is broken down in the human liver and is subsequently excreted through the kidneys. In other systems, the metabolism of the drug is negligible.

Meanwhile, the toxic effects of alcohol on the human liver are very significant. Therefore, if this body additionally has to cope with the decomposition products of Paracetamol, a malfunction occurs in its work. Which, in turn, leads to a decrease in the ability to produce secretions of enzymes.

The consequences of taking the drug with alcohol

Taking the antipyretic Paracetamol while drinking alcohol can lead to such adverse effects as:

  • Toxic hepatitis - this disease is characterized by the occurrence of an inflammatory process in the liver.
  • Liver cirrhosis - contributes to the irreversible replacement of parenchymal organ tissue with fibrous connective tissue.
  • Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas.

Thus, it is strictly forbidden to take a drug to reduce temperature along with alcoholic beverages.

Symptoms of overdose and poisoning

A mild overdose of Paracetamol in most cases does not lead to the appearance of pronounced and dangerous symptoms. Most often, the symptoms of such a problem pass independently within 48 hours after taking the drug. However, the situation is greatly aggravated if there has been a strong excess of the established norm.

In acute poisoning with this medicine, the following symptoms may occur:

  • the development of anorexia;
  • the appearance of nausea and vomiting;
  • manifestation of pain in the upper right quadrant of the abdominal cavity.

In rare cases, an overdose of a drug affects the occurrence of pain in the kidneys. In this case, the patient has no signs of renal failure. While taking a large amount of the drug, pancreatitis may develop. 5 days after poisoning, symptoms of liver damage in most people go away. If this does not happen, multiple organ failure appears.

How much can I drink alcoholic beverages

Alcohol is allowed to be consumed no earlier than 9 hours after taking Paracetamol tablets. At the same time, doctors advise during treatment with the use of this analgesic, if possible, also to refrain from drinking alcohol.
It is worth noting that there are certain norms for drinking alcohol while using Paracetamol. They can be represented as follows:

  • the volume of vodka cannot exceed 130 ml;
  • the volume of beer should not be higher than 1000 ml;
  • the volume of wine is allowed within 440 ml.

Taking more alcoholic beverages during treatment with a medication can lead to a double burden on the liver.

Use for a hangover syndrome

The use of alcohol leads to the appearance of a post-toxic state, better known as a hangover syndrome. It is accompanied by headaches, dry mouth, excessive sweating and nausea. To get rid of some of these symptoms, doctors recommend taking Paracetamol.

A hangover syndrome, as a rule, occurs after a fairly significant time period after drinking alcohol. That is why in such cases, the analgesic is not recognized as dangerous to the general condition of the human body.

Possibility of death

The possible consequences of taking large doses of Paracetamol with alcohol can be very dangerous. Doctors and pharmacologists include such health problems as:

  • hepatic coma;
  • violation of the liver;
  • multiple organ failure.

If you do not take any therapeutic actions in a timely manner if the above-mentioned deviations occur after taking excessively high doses of Paracetamol, there is a high risk of death.

The lethal dose of an analgesic for adults is 150 mg of the drug per 1 kg of human weight.

Between receptions of Paracetamol and the use of alcohol, it is necessary to withstand a certain time period. If you violate this rule, there is a high probability of adverse effects on life or health.
