What are the very first thoughts appearing in the head at the word barley? Of course, this is the tastiest porridge in the world. In fact, there are simple recipes where pearl barley is the main ingredient, having prepared according to which, the opinion about this grits will radically change.

Braised pearl barley with chicken

Ingredients Composition:

  • barley - 0.5 kg;
  • chicken - 0.5 kg;
  • carrots - 1 pc.;
  • celery - 200 g;
  • parsnip - 1 pc.;
  • vegetable oil - 3 tbsp. l .;
  • meat broth - 1 l.

Cooking method:

  1. Wash vegetables, peel and cut into cubes.
  2. Roll chicken in flour, chopped and salted first.
  3. Pour oil into a wok pan and lightly brown vegetables without frying them much.
  4. In the same dish where vegetables were cooked, fry the chicken, not bringing it to full readiness.
  5. Putting the meat into a separate bowl, pour it into a pan, where vegetables and meat were fried, the broth. Pour barley prepared earlier, vegetables and chicken there. Cover with a lid and bring to a boil. Then reduce the heat and simmer for 45 minutes.

Barley with chicken is ready, it can be served on the table.

Cooking in a slow cooker

In this recipe for pearl barley with chicken in a slow cooker, shank will be used, but other parts are allowed.

Ingredients Composition:

  • pearl barley - 270 g;
  • drumsticks - 700 g;
  • onion - 1 pc.;
  • carrots - 1 pc.;
  • pepper - 0.5 tsp;
  • turmeric - 0.5 tsp;
  • sweet paprika - 1 tsp;
  • sunflower oil - 5 tbsp. l .;
  • salt;
  • water.

Cooking method:

  1. First, prepare the cereal: soak it with water and leave for an hour. This is the minimum soaking time.
  2. Pickle chicken in pepper, turmeric, sweet paprika and salt. Mix everything, rubbing the seasonings with your hands into the cake mix.
  3. Dice the onion. Three carrots on a large grater.
  4. We turn on the frying mode, after pouring the oil into the bowl.We wait until it warms up, spread the onions and carrots.
  5. At the end of frying, we put soaked cereal in the vegetables. Mix everything, salt and add water so that it completely covers the barley with vegetables.
  6. Put the drumsticks on top and close the lid. Set the quenching mode. If the multicooker has a program for choosing the type of meat, select "Chicken".

Porridge should turn out friable. If necessary, after cooking, you can let the dish brew for an hour.

Tasty pearl barley porridge in the oven

Ingredients Composition:

  • pearl barley - 400 g;
  • chicken - 500 g;
  • onion - 150 g;
  • carrots - 150 g;
  • tomato juice - 100 ml;
  • refined oil - 2 tbsp. l .;
  • garlic - 4 cloves;
  • salt pepper
  • water - 1.2 l.

Execution Technology:

  1. Soak pearl barley for 2 hours.
  2. We prepare vegetables: chop the onion into cubes, carrot - into strips.
  3. Cut the meat into pieces up to 5 cm thick.
  4. Pour the oil and wait until it is well heated in the pan.
  5. Fry the meat over high heat.
  6. Spread onion for chicken. We wait a few minutes and add the carrots. We mix well and simmer for 7 minutes under a closed lid.
  7. Then add tomato juice, salt, pepper and let all products stew for another 5 minutes.
  8. In the meantime, prepare the cereal: fry in a preheated pan until a nutty taste appears.
  9. Preheat the oven to 200 C and place pots in it with all the prepared ingredients for 15 minutes. Then we reduce the temperature to 180 C and keep the porridge with meat in the oven until fully cooked.

We put prepared products in pots in the following order:

  1. Meat with vegetables.
  2. Barley.
  3. Fill with water.
  4. Sprinkle with garlic, passed through garlic garnish.

Barley should be soft and crumbly.

Barley with vegetables

In this recipe, you can change the composition as you wish.

Ingredients:

  • pearl barley - 2 tbsp .;
  • turnip onion - 1 pc.;
  • carrots - 1 pc.;
  • sweet red or orange pepper - 1 pc.;
  • cherry tomatoes - 0.5 kg;
  • garlic arrows - 300 g;
  • asparagus beans - 100 g;
  • salt pepper;
  • flavourless oil to taste.

Execution Technology:

  1. Boil the pearl barley until fully cooked, before that it must be soaked.
  2. We cut onions in half rings, carrots and sweet pepper cut into strips.
  3. Arrows of garlic and asparagus - into small pieces.
  4. Tomatoes cut into 4 lobes.

If you pre-fry everything, the dish will turn out tastier, but you can skip this step.

5. In a bowl, mix the vegetables with the finished barley. All salt and pepper to taste, add vegetable oil.

6. The products are put in a baking sleeve and placed in an oven at a temperature of 180 C for 40 minutes.

Recipe with mushrooms

For this recipe, you can take any mushrooms, focusing on your own taste. Mushrooms or porcini mushrooms, which can be bought not only fresh, but also frozen, are best suited.

 

Ingredients Composition:

  • barley - 0.5 kg;
  • mushrooms - 0.7 kg;
  • onion - 1 pc.;
  • butter - 50 g;
  • sunflower oil - 3 tbsp. l;
  • salt pepper.

Stages of execution:

  1. Pre boil pearl barley.
  2. Dice the onion and fry in vegetable oil. Luk do not fry much, it should be caramelized.
  3. On top of the onion, spread the mushrooms, after chopping them in a chaotic manner. It should be taken into account that when frying, mushrooms will decrease in size, so it is better to cut them coarsely.
  4. Fry the mushrooms with onions until tender and at the end add the butter and a couple of tablespoons of water. Stew a little more mushrooms in a creamy sauce. Salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Ready mushrooms with onions are added to the barley and mix everything.

This dish can be prepared in a traditional cast-iron heavy cast pot, or you can use a slow cooker and cook it in Pilaf mode. For pilaf from pearl barley with chicken, it is better to choose the fatty parts of meat with a skin, then the dish will turn out to be juicy.

Ingredients Composition:

  • barley - 0.5 kg;
  • chicken - 0.4 kg;
  • carrots - 2 pcs.;
  • onion - 2 pcs.;
  • spices for pilaf;
  • head of garlic;
  • red bell pepper - ½ fruit;
  • any vegetable oil - 100 g.
  • salt.

Cooking method:

  1. Peel and chop the onion, pepper and carrot.
  2. Cut chicken into large pieces.
  3. Soak cereals in advance for 1.5 hours.
  4. Fry vegetables in oil until half-cooked, add meat, spices, salt, and hold for another 10 minutes.
  5. We carefully wash the barley and add it to the vegetables with meat.
  6. In the middle we make a recess, where we put the head of garlic, after washing it well and cleaning it from excess husk.
  7. Fill with water so that the liquid is about 2 fingers above the cereal.
  8. Cook the pilaf over low heat until cooked.

After cooking, let it brew for at least 30 minutes, then mix the dish.

Cooking delicious pearl barley porridge will take no more than 1 - 2 hours. Moreover, half of this time will be spent on boiling cereals.
