Origin history

In 1997, in St. Petersburg, Nina Nasibova came up with the idea of developing a completely new breed of dog. She wanted to create a variety of decorative dogs that would become popular even outside the country. I wanted the pets to be small in size, which would allow them to be taken with them on any trip or journey. Friendliness and playfulness were another distinctive feature.

To achieve this goal, representatives of the following breeds were used:

  • Russian colored lapdog;
  • Chihuahua
  • Yorkshire Terriers;
  • toy poodles.

The work was very complicated and was carried out for 3 years. Many attempts were made, among which the majority were unsuccessful, and only a few gave positive results. As a result, several specimens were selected for subsequent selection, during which they tried to improve the breed.

The breeding was timed to coincide with the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg, hence the name "Petersburg".

The purpose and nature of the dog

Nevsky orchid - not a cowardly, bold dog. Her external features are deceptive, because she has a completely adult and independent character. In general, Neva orchids are very smart and smart pets. Training a dog for a tray does not require special skills and does not take much time. This pet is designed for travel, walks and games with children, because it is cheerful and has a balanced psyche.

Representatives of this breed adore their owners, but at the same time they are sensitive to their mood. Often show tenderness and affection, and also require a warm attitude towards themselves.

Almost always, orchids are friendly to others, including other animals. The dog will always be glad to meet new people and will not cause much trouble during a walk.

A puppy of the Neva orchid is advised to give birth to those who want to find a friend with a wide and kind heart. However, it is worth remembering that such a dog should never feel abandoned or lonely.

Criteria for choosing a puppy of the Neva Orchid

To choose a puppy of a St. Petersburg orchid, it is worth considering the following criteria:

  • Before purchasing a pet, you need to know exactly the purpose for which you are buying it.
  • It is worth knowing that the right to reproduce these dogs are exclusively members of the St. Petersburg Orchid Club.
  • By purchasing a puppy from the representatives of the club, you will receive a contract and all the necessary documents for the pet.
  • Be careful when choosing a puppy. Moscow orchid, Nevsky fleur are purebred puppies sold by scammers.
  • Official sources have the names of people who have the right to sell such puppies.
  • All pets on the femoral side have a stigma beginning with the letter “T”.

Keeping and caring for a dog

This breed does not require special care. Dog hair is not moultable and has no unpleasant odors.

However, an orchid differs from other breeds in a special haircut:

  • Wool on the back and chest should be removed using a machine.
  • Mustaches, beard and bangs do not need to be cut.
  • Ears also cannot be cut.
  • The tail coat is clipped all over.
  • The ends of the coat are regularly trimmed.
  • The paws and the spaces between the fingers also free from excess hair.
  • It is advisable to cut the dog once every 2 months

Do not forget that representatives of this elegant breed tend to get tired. Although the breed is very hardy, she also needs rest. From childhood, the puppy must be accustomed to bathing, and then to drying with a hairdryer. The dog needs to be bathed at least 1 time in a week and a half and in no case should you brush the contaminated coat.

If there is no opportunity to wash the dog, then use special sprays that need to be evenly distributed over the coat and then wiped with a napkin.

While bathing, dogs put a rubber mat on the bottom of the bathtub to prevent the paws from slipping. So the orchid will feel comfortable. Wool should be soaped in the direction of its growth. You can not rub very strongly cosmetics - this leads to tangling of wool. Rinse them very carefully, leaving no residual shampoo. After bathing, the St. Petersburg orchid needs to be wrapped in a towel so that it absorbs moisture. Careful wiping does not require wool. Use cosmetics only as directed.

As for feeding, the dog needs a complete and balanced diet. For her, granular food is suitable, which must be given at a certain time.

How to train and raise a dog

The breed of dogs of the St. Petersburg orchid is one of the indoor ones, so they do not need training. But at the same time, one should not forget that an orchid is an animal that has natural instincts, and it’s just worth adjusting them a bit. If the dog will be allowed a lot, then she can cross all sides and feel like a real owner. Therefore, education must be given special attention.

From the very first days, try to let the puppy understand what he can do and what is strictly forbidden. It is important that the animal knows the rules of the new family and the place that is assigned to it in it.

These dogs are very calm, smart and obedient. They should not raise their tone and apply physical force to them, because after that they can become depressed for a rather long time.

Advantages and disadvantages of the breed

This breed of dogs has a lot of advantages:

  • She has a long beautiful coat that does not fade and has no smell.
  • The dog is small in size, so it can be transported on anything from a bicycle to airplanes.
  • She is very obedient and smart, loves children and is always devoted to her masters.
  • It is easy to accustom itself to the tray, and in the absence of owners for a long time it will not bark and disturb neighbors, but will calmly wait in the apartment.
  • Wool has many colors for every taste except white.
  • The orchid is not at all aggressive.

Of the shortcomings, only one can be distinguished - the dog needs to be combed every day. In addition, a puppy of this breed has a rather high cost.
