Antibiotic Suprax belongs to cephalosporins. The medication is often used to combat many diseases that are caused by bacteria that are sensitive to its active component.

The composition of the drug, release form

The drug is produced by a Dutch pharmaceutical company. It has several forms.

  • Tablets that are allowed to dissolve before use. They have an oblong shape, orange tint, strawberry smell. In 1 table. is 400 mg of the active ingredient.
  • Capsules of white-violet color with yellow powdery contents, containing 400 mg of the active substance.
  • The granules used for the manufacture of a suspension for children are represented by small white balls containing 1.2 g of the active substance. The finished suspension has a strawberry flavor. Granules are available in dark bottles with a dosing syringe.

The antibiotic in all dosage forms is based on one active component - cefixime, which is presented in the form of cefixime trihydrate. This form is necessary for its passage unchanged through the gastric juice. The active component is released in the intestine, where it is absorbed into the circulatory system.

In addition to cefixime, tablets consist of the following inactive ingredients:

  • cellulose;
  • calcium saccharin;
  • hyproloses;
  • dye;
  • flavoring.

Simultaneously with the active ingredient, Supraks Solutab 400 mg (capsule form) is supplemented with the following inactive substances:

  • gelatin;
  • dye;
  • sodium hydroxide;
  • titanium dioxide;
  • propylene glycol;
  • butanol;
  • ethanol.

Suspension "Supraks" for children, simultaneously with cefixime, consists of the following components that do not have a therapeutic effect on the body:

  • sucrose;
  • sodium benzoate;
  • xanthan gum;
  • flavorings.

Due to its composition, Supraks exhibits a powerful antibacterial effect. It is active against many pathogens. The active substance disrupts the synthesis of bacterial cells, as a result of which they die.

At the same time, Suprax proved harmless to the patient, due to which patients of the youngest category are often treated with the drug. It is used to fight many infections that occur in different organs. However, the result can only be achieved if the aggressive bacteria are sensitive to the group of cephalosporins.

Instructions for use indicate that Suprax can be drunk regardless of food intake. But if the drug is taken with food, then the maximum amount of the active ingredient is observed in the circulatory system half an hour earlier.

Instructions for use and dosage for children and adults

Suprax should be taken exactly according to the dosage prescribed by the attending physician. It is forbidden to independently increase or decrease the dose. If the duration of use is reduced, the risk of the formation of immunity of pathogenic microorganisms increases. This can cause the development of a chronic disease.

Suprax Capsules

The drug in capsule form is prescribed from 12 years and subject to the presence of a patient weighing more than 50 kg. Otherwise, the patient is prohibited from using this form of antibiotic.

Patients suffering from renal failure are not shown taking capsules. It is recommended to replace them with a suspension.

  1. Capsules must be swallowed whole, not open. The medicine should be washed down with a large volume of water.
  2. To achieve the best effect, it is recommended to drink the medication at the same time.
  3. The dose of the drug is the same, regardless of the degree of the disease.
  4. An antibiotic is prescribed to be used once a day.
  5. A weekly course of treatment is usually recommended. But some complicated infections require a 2-week intake.

Note. Determination of the duration of the therapeutic course is as follows: after the cessation of symptoms, it is required to take capsules for another 2 days.

Granules for the preparation of suspensions for children

Children's drug is available in granular form, which is diluted in warm water. This type is usually prescribed for children from six months, but adults are also possible. To prepare the medicine, add 20 ml of water, and after shaking the bottle, another 20 ml is required. The recommended dose is measured by the dosed syringe included in the kit.

"Supraks" in the form of a suspension is drunk once a day, regardless of food. The dosage is calculated based on the age and weight of the person; the type of pathology does not affect it.

Typically, the drug is prescribed in the following dosage:

  • from 12 years, 20 ml of suspension is prescribed;
  • for a child, a calculation is made taking into account its weight - 8 mg of the drug per 1 kg.

The suspension is taken within 7 days, but if necessary, it is possible to increase the course to 2 weeks.

The finished syrup is stored for no more than 14 days, if after this time the medicine is not completely consumed, then it is thrown away. In this connection, the granules must be dissolved only if there is a need for treatment with this antibiotic. If, after 2 weeks, it is necessary to continue treatment with Suprax, then a fresh suspension should be prepared.

Undissolved granules can be stored for a long time. Until the expiration date.Store the finished medicine at a temperature of no more than 15 degrees. It is important not to allow it to freeze. If the medicine is frozen, then its use is prohibited.

Important! If you arbitrarily increase the recommended dosage, then dysbiosis may develop. To avoid this, it is important to adhere to the doctor's recommendations and take probiotics in parallel.

During pregnancy and lactation

"Suprax" is prescribed to pregnant women, subject to urgent need. In obstetrics, the cephalosporin group is still relevant, which is explained by its lower risk to the fetus, compared with other groups of antibacterial drugs.

The medication is not prescribed during breastfeeding. If this need arises, then the baby is transferred to artificial feeding.

Suprax is not shown in the following situations:

  • in the presence of an allergy to cephalosporins;
  • in the presence of hypersensitivity to auxiliary components;
  • if the patient suffers from serious kidney disease;
  • the suspension should not be taken for patients younger than 6 months, and capsules - for those under 12 years old;
