According to statistics, almost half of the world's population has certain problems with joints or bone tissue. In some, they appear in acute forms, which causes severe severe pain. In this case, the pharmacological market provides a fast-acting analgesic that has anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects - Movalis tablets.

The composition of the drug

The drug looks like small tablets in a yellow, light yellow or even bright lemon shell. The shape is convex on one side, there is a mark with a code and a symbol of the company, the surface is rough, the edges are slightly chamfered.

At the heart of the drug as an active substance is meloxicam, which in a dragee of 7.5 mg or 15 mg. Among the additional elements: povidone, crospovidone, sodium citrate, cellulose, magnesium stearate, lactose monohydrate, silicon dioxide.

The drug is dispensed only by prescription.

Pharmacological properties and pharmacokinetics

Movalis, more precisely, the substance meloxicam, on which it is based, is referred to as NSAIDs - non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The exact mechanism of action of this entire group is still unknown, but there is a general model of its effect on the body: - blocking of COX-2 (cyclooxygenase-2), which, due to enzymatic activity, is involved in the formation of prostaglandins. The latter are substances that increase sensitivity to pain mediators.Their active production in the inflammatory process causes discomfort, respectively, inhibition of prostaglandins dulls the pain. Additionally, the drug has anti-inflammatory and antipyretic (reducing heat) effects.

Movalis is well perceived by the body and is easily absorbed in the digestive tract. The bioavailability rate is 90%.

With a single dose of meloxicam, its maximum amount in plasma is detected 5 or 6 hours after the use of the drug, and with regular use, after 3-5 days. If you take Movalis once a day, then by the third day of therapy there will be an accumulation of a substance of 0.4-1 μg / ml for tablets of 7.5 mg and 0.8-2 μg / ml for tablets of 15 mg (average concentration). You can take without correction for eating or drinking various drinks - these factors do not affect absorption.

Meloxicam has a high coefficient of binding to blood proteins - 99.4%. It is metabolized in the liver. Studies have found in the urine 5 metabolites of meloxicam, which indicates a low pharmacodynamic activity. It is excreted through the kidneys and intestines (about 5% of the daily norm). The elimination half-life is 15-20 hours.

Why are Movalis tablets prescribed?

Movalis is used to obtain analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects in the following diseases:

  • Ankylosing spondylitis (ankylosing spondylitis);
  • osteoarthritis (during exacerbations of the disease);
  • rheumatoid arthritis.

Instructions for use and dosage

The daily dose is 7.5 mg (one tablet or half of it, depending on the variety) for patients with osteoarthrosis, rheumatoid arthritis. For patients with severe pain, the dose is increased to the maximum - Movalis tablets 15 mg (whole). Reception - once a day.

The tablet must be washed down with a small amount of liquid (a glass or any other convenient volume). The optimal time is at any meal.

Do not exceed a dose of 15 mg per day. Patients after 55 years of age, adolescents and patients with high vulnerability (if there are contraindications, but need to take the drug), it is recommended to give half of the maximum dose.

The duration of the administration of Movalis tablets depends on the reaction of the body to the drug. If the condition improves, the doctor can reduce the rate, and subsequently abandon the drug. Acute attacks of joint pain require long-term rehabilitation. It can also be used for a one-time symptomatic treatment during pain attacks.

Renal failure is a reason to reduce the dose to half the maximum. Hepatic failure does not require such measures.

During pregnancy and lactation

Prostaglandin inhibitors can adversely affect pregnancy and child development. Research shows that it is possible to develop heart defects and gastroschisis (prolapse through a cleft in the abdominal cavity of the intestines and other organs) with a probability of 1%.

Admission Movalis in the early stages of pregnancy (first and second trimesters) increases the risk of miscarriage, and with therapy during the third trimester, the chance of the following disorders increases:

  • toxicity of the lungs and heart;
  • renal failure, other pathologies of the urinary system.

For the mother, the following consequences are possible:

  • delayed childbirth or their high duration due to "inhibition" of uterine contractions;
  • prolonged bleeding during or after childbirth.

Movalis is contraindicated during pregnancy. If necessary, it can be used in the early stages and during conception, but in minimal doses.

There is no evidence that meloxicam is able to pass through breast milk into the baby’s body, but other NSAIDs have this property, therefore Movalis treatment for lactation should be excluded.

Drug interaction

The mechanism of action of the drug provides a wide range of effects on the body when combined with other drugs, which must be taken into account when taking Movalis. The list of substances and possible consequences during the reaction with meloxicam are presented in the table below.

A drugConsequences of combining
DiureticsDehydration, as a result - acute renal failure (acute renal failure)
Lithium preparationsThe accumulation of lithium in the blood, a significant load on the excretion system
AT1 receptor blockersIn the presence of a vulnerable urinary system, the development of acute renal failure is possible due to impaired renal function ("inhibition" of filtration in the Shumlyansky-Bowman capsule)
SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) - AntidepressantsRarely - GI hemorrhage
Antihypertensive drugsDecreased NSAID activity
MethotrexateHematological toxicity - a decrease in the number of platelets, white blood cells in the blood, the accumulation of toxic decay products
CyclosporinStrengthening the detrimental effects of the immunosuppressant on the kidneys
Salicylates, glucocorticosteroids, other NSAIDsHigh probability of ulceration on the walls of the stomach, gastrointestinal bleeding

The interaction of meloxicam with hypoglycemic drugs cannot be excluded, although concrete examples in practice do not yet exist.

Contraindications, side effects and overdose

Movalis painkillers are contraindicated in the following cases:

  • an allergic reaction or hypersensitivity to meloxicam or other NSAIDs, to one of the components of the drug;
  • clotting problems;
  • reaction to taking aspirin or NSAIDs in the form of nasal polyps, angioedema shock, asthma, urticaria;
  • gastrointestinal bleeding;
  • age up to 16 years;
  • ulcerative formations in the body;
  • pregnancy, lactation;
  • acute renal or heart failure;
  • perioperative pain syndrome with ASA (coronary artery bypass grafting).

As for the side effects, an increase in the risk of acute thrombotic events is observed from the side of the heart and the circulatory system, the blood-forming function of the body. Blood composition may change: thrombocytopenia, leukopenia. Less commonly, anemia and agranulocytosis.

A detrimental effect on the immune system manifests itself as an allergy, subsequent increased sensitivity to the drug, rarely anaphylaxis, including severe forms, for example, shock.

Often patients complain of aching pain in the back of the head, darkening in the eyes, dizziness, dyspeptic disorders. Gastric erosion was observed when taking doses of more than 15 mg per day and in the treatment of elderly patients and adolescents 16-18 years old (vulnerable groups). Digestive problems are exacerbated.

Cases of the appearance of Lyell and Stevens-Johnson syndrome, multimorphic erythema, bullous dermatitis were recorded. In isolated cases, visual disturbances are observed, conjunctivitis appears. The patient may become more vulnerable to viral and bacterial diseases, sometimes there are symptoms of colds and flu.

Also, the drug can retain in the body fluid and some trace elements - potassium and sodium. Vulnerable patients may develop acute renal failure, but with moderate doses, this outcome is unlikely. A decrease in immunity can lead to the appearance of diseases of the genitourinary tract.

The likelihood of side effects is minimized by accurately following the doctor's instructions. For patients from the high-risk group, the shortest course of treatment with a half daily dose is recommended.

Overdose manifests itself in the following symptoms:

  • drowsiness and weakness;
  • signs of intoxication (nausea, vomiting, fever);
  • sharp or aching pain in the upper abdomen;
  • hypertension, convulsions, the development of heart failure (acute heart failure) and acute renal failure, coma, cardiac arrest - only when taking doses many times the daily intake.

Similar signs are quickly eliminated by symptomatic treatment. It is recommended to take colestyramine (4 doses 3 times a day).

Movalis analog in tablets

Movalis analogues include drugs that are also non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

An almost complete copy, but with some differences in price, manufacturers and trade names, is Amelotex. Available in tablets as well as in ampoules and capsules. Also derived from enolic acid. Lists of contraindications and side effects are the same.

Another identical drug is Meloxicam. The same group includes Mirlox.

Arthrosan is popular among patients, whose main advantage is the price. The drug is based on meloxicam, but is improved and used to treat a wider range of diseases, but due to the gentle effect on the body, its effectiveness suffers. It is characterized by a quick effect, but in the long run is not so effective.

Other analogues of Movalis:

  • Aroksikam;
  • Existen Sanovel;
  • Revmoxicam;
  • Inflamine;
  • Melbek
  • Melox;
  • Novoksikam;
  • Algesics
  • Zeloxim;
  • Party;
  • M-Kam;
  • Revmalgin;
  • Loxidolum.

Movalis is an NSAID that is widely used in medicine to eliminate pain in various joint diseases. Despite the fact that in general it is well perceived by the body, there are a number of contraindications and side effects that can be avoided by a detailed familiarization with the instructions for the drug.
